The Design:
My client came to me with the brief of creating an open plan living, dining, kitchen. That operates functionally for a young family with two children and that lends itself to entertaining on weekends.
The aesthetic was clear from the outset, to draw on my clients travels to Europe and their Italian heritage, while also staying grounded to the fact that they grew up on a farm in far North Queensland.
We created a kitchen that incorporated rough rendered finishes, solid European oak joinery and topped with a mustard terrazzo benchtop, reminiscent of their trips to Greece and Italy.
The next key element was the L-shaped dining bench seat. A place for family meals to be eaten, school homework to be completed and everything in between. Inspired by the ultimate comfort and beachy vibes of Bill’s Bondi. The buttery soft olive green leather, subtle rendered curves, custom dining table, Knot Studios wavy mirror and Anna Charlesworth pendant all adds to the alure of the space. Finally, the shelving and storage in the living room was designed to reflect a sense of the families spirit. A sentimental dish from my clients Nonna, a custom made timber photo frame made by the designer herself and foraged sandstone rocks turn this vignette into a personal display of family.
